The rate drops on 1 January 2027, then steps down each January and July until 2030. Installing before 1 January 2027 gives you the higher rate.

Government sources: Cheaper Home Batteries Program (DCCEEW) and STC calculator (Clean Energy Regulator). Check your figure against the CER calculator before you sign. Estimates only. Figures use the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program settings from 1 May 2026 (battery STC factor, capacity bands at 100% for the first 14kWh, 60% for 14 to 28kWh and 15% for 28 to 50kWh). The STC price is assumed at $37. The final rebate depends on your system's eligible capacity, installation date and the STC price on the day. Your installer confirms the exact amount in your quote. Related FAQs

Rebate questions.

  • Am I eligible?

Most new home battery installs qualify. The battery needs to be new, between 5 and 100 kWh usable, on the CEC approved list, and connected to a VPP-capable inverter. It must also stay at your home until the later of the end of 2030 or the end of its warranty. We confirm eligibility on your quote.

  • Who claims it?

We do. You sign over your rebate rights to us when you accept your quote, and we lodge the certificates. The discount comes off your price, so you don’t need to apply yourself.

  • Can I claim the NSW scheme too?

The NSW home battery discount closed for households in July 2025. The NSW incentive that’s open to homes is for connecting a battery to a virtual power plant, and it can be combined with the federal discount.

  • When does the rebate change?

It drops from 6.8 to 5.7 certificates per kWh on 1 January 2027, then steps down every six months until the end of 2030. Install before 31 December 2026 for the highest rate.

  • Can I add to an existing battery and still get the rebate?

Expansions are allowed if the existing battery hasn’t claimed the rebate before, the added capacity is at least 5 kWh, and the total doesn’t exceed 100 kWh.
