Fox ESS FAQs
Questions about Fox ESS.
What's the difference between the Fox ESS EQ4800 and CQ7?
Both are stackable LFP batteries, but they suit different size homes. Each EQ4800 module holds 4.66kWh and you can stack up to 9, for 41.93kWh. Each CQ7 module holds 6.96kWh and you can stack up to 14, for 97.44kWh. The EQ4800 suits smaller to mid-size homes. The CQ7 suits bigger homes, high energy users and anyone planning to add an EV or more appliances.
How much of the battery can I actually use?
All of it. Fox ESS rates both batteries at 100% depth of discharge, so the usable capacity is the same as the rated capacity.
Can I add more battery later?
Yes. Both batteries are modular. You can add modules later up to 9 for the EQ4800 or 14 for the CQ7. We'll plan your system so there's room to grow.
Can the battery go outside?
Yes. Both are IP65 rated for indoor or outdoor installs. We still pick a spot with good airflow, out of direct sun where possible, to keep the battery within its operating temperature.
Will it work in cold weather?
Standard models charge from 0°C and discharge from -10°C. The CQ7 is also available with a warm-up function, which lets it charge and discharge down to -25°C. For most of Sydney, the standard models are fine.
What warranty do Fox ESS batteries come with?
The EQ4800 and CQ7 both have a 10-year Fox ESS warranty. Fox ESS guarantees the battery keeps at least 70% of its capacity for 10 years or until it reaches its energy throughput limit, whichever comes first. The battery must be registered and connected to Fox ESS monitoring when it's commissioned, which we do for you.
Who do I contact if something goes wrong?
Us. Fox ESS warranty claims are made through your installer, so SunHarvest handles the claim and the replacement for you, with 24-hour after-sales response.
Is a Fox ESS battery safe?
Both batteries use LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells, one of the most stable lithium chemistries for home batteries. They're certified to IEC 62619, the international safety standard for lithium batteries in homes, and the CQ7 includes a built-in fire protection function.
Which inverter does a Fox ESS battery need?
A Fox ESS hybrid inverter. We match the inverter size to your home, from 8kW single phase to 15kW three phase, at your free on-site inspection.
Can I monitor my battery?
Yes. The Fox ESS app shows your solar, battery and grid use in real time, so you can see how much power you're saving.
